Dr. Davide Fornacca secures long-term contract with Dali University, strengthening China-Switzerland collaboration

Dr. Davide Fornacca, after a decade of valuable collaboration with the Institute of Eastern-Himalaya Biodiversity Research (IEHBR), has secured a new long-term contract with Dali University, the host institution of the International Centre for Biodiversity and Primate Conservation (ICBPC), under the leadership of Professor Xiao Wen. This contract marks a significant step forward in the ongoing international collaboration between China and Switzerland, further solidifying the global research partnership.

With a background in social sciences, specializing in geography in 2007, and a 2021 PhD in environmental sciences from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in collaboration with IEHBR, Dr. Fornacca’s research focuses on the ecological impacts and functions of wildland fires. His work spans both the local scale, particularly in the Eastern Himalayan region (northwest Yunnan), and broader global geographical scales. As an expert in GIS and Remote Sensing, Dr. Fornacca is dedicated to training students in the use of these powerful analytical tools to analyze a wide array of data with geographical or spatial dimensions, including environmental and human-related data.

Dr. Fornacca’s research contributions align with the ICBPC vision and mission, particularly in the analysis of biodiversity habitats and their interactions with land cover changes and disturbances. His work continues to enhance ICBPC’s efforts in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

ICBPC is excited to continue this long-term collaboration, confident that together, they will make significant strides in promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable development across the region and beyond.
