ICBPC Committee members visit Lhasa, Xizang

The ICBPC committee members embarked in an 8-day road trip from Dali, Yunnan to Lhasa, Xizang (Tibet), realizing a plan made one year before.

Lucky to see Kawagebo


Day 1: we started from Dali on the 31st of July, cross the Yangtze River and Mekong River, and visited Deqin county, where we admired both at sunset and sunrise the landscape dominated by Yunnan’s tallest mountain: the iconic Kawagebo.

Day 2: we left Deqin and entered the province of Tibet in Mangkang county. We visited millenary ancient salt fields and learned salt production techniques. We also enjoyed delicious local JiaJiaMian noodles, which are famous all over Southwest China.

Day 3: we drove from Mangkang to Basu County on the 318 national road, a long lane connecting which Shanghai to Nielamu county in Xizang, and crossed the Nujiang river (Salween).

Day 4: we continued our trip to Bomi County, where we admired the Parlung Zangbo River, a branch of the Yarlung Zangbo River. We also saw the Midui glacier.

Day 5: we drove along the Parlung zangbo river to reach Linzhi city, and enjoy a view of the Nnamjagbarwa mountain.

Day 6: we reached Tibet’s capital city Lhasa, and visited the Potala Palace at night.

Day 7: we stayed in Lhasa and continued our visit of the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple.

Day 8: Two committee members (Prof. Pan and Prof. Gioulatos) and their sons flew back to Kunming (Yunnan’s capital city) in the evening, while the rest of the crew drove back to Dali in three days.
