Professors Li Baoguo and Paul A. Garber were Honored with the Chimelong Award of the Chinese Zoological Society

On the morning of August 23, 2024, during the opening ceremony of the 19th Congress of the Chinese Society of Zoology and the 26th Academic Annual Meeting, Professor Li Baoguo, Director of the International Center for Biodiversity and Primate Conservation (ICBPC) at Northwest University, was awarded the 4th Chinese Society of Zoology Changlong Award—Achievement Award! During the same event, Professor Paul A. Garber, Associate Director of the ICBPC and a world-renowned primatologist from the University of Illinois, USA, was awarded the 4th Chinese Society of Zoology Changlong Award—International Scholar Award!

Li Baoguo, a distinguished figure in zoology, has made significant contributions to long-term primate research, advancing the field of primate behavioral ecology. He described the low-temperature adaptation model of Rhinopithecus roxellana, established the concept of the species' special multilevel society, proposed a novel perspective that the multilevel society of Asian colobines evolved into an aggregate form, and founded the first field research base for Rhinopithecus. Professor Li has pioneered new approaches for the long-term monitoring and conservation research of wildlife.

Paul A. Garber, a globally respected primatologist, has made groundbreaking contributions in both China and the USA. His research and collaboration efforts in Sichuan and Yunnan have significantly enhanced the capacity of Chinese researchers to engage in international studies, cooperation, and communication. Professor Garber's deep commitment to the development of Chinese primatology has made him not only a valued friend of China but also a witness to the remarkable progress in Chinese primatology.

The recognition of these two scholars with such a prestigious award from the Chinese academic community not only acknowledges their outstanding contributions but also symbolizes the rise and growth of the Chinese primatology research community on both the international and domestic academic stages. This indicates the potential of the ICBPC to enable academic innovation, international cooperation and future talents cultivation.
