Invited by Dr. Wang Rongxing on behalf of the Institute Eastern Himalaya Biodiversity Research, Dong Jiangtian, the secretary general of the Shenzhen Bird Watching Society, visited the Institute and gave a seminar on "Scientific Bird Watching" on December 7, 2019. Dr. Wang Rongxing introduced the Secretary General Dong Jiangtian to the audiences. Ms. Dong provided a vivid lesson on how scientifically a watching birds project could be organized. She shared her experiences on how to become a qualified bird watcher; how to develop and organize bird watching activities more scientifically; and how to organize a team for different demands and purposes. She specifically pointed out that if you want to be a qualified bird watcher, you must have a solid basic theory about the birds’ classification, ecology and behaviors, and actively apply the theory to practice. That a practice can further increase your theoretical knowledge. As for how to effectively carry out and organize bird watching activities.  Secretary General Dong Jiangtian presenting the project Ms. Dong demonstrated a specific example through an appropriate team organization. She also proposed a mechanism developing the core figures of the organization by specifically focusing on alternative demands from each member of the association, so that everyone's talents can be fully demonstrated. At the end of the report, Ms. Dong patiently answered the questions raised by the students, and finally proposed an establishment of "Bird Watching Association of Dali University" to abstract college students to actively participate in bird watching activities, fully taking advantage of the special physic location of the University in the Mts. Hengduan that has been regarded as one of the 17 biodiversity hotspots in the world, and one of the best places carrying on bird watching programs. (source：admin) |
