Dr. Li Binbin, invited by Professor Wen Xiao, came from Environmental Research Center of Duke University, Kunshan, the USA, presented an interesting seminar titled "Conservation of Unique Species under the Hemispheres Program" to the Faculty and students of at Institute of Eastern-Himalaya Biodiversity Research on June 19, 2020, which also was shown on the line.

Dr. Li Binbin giving her seminar

Dr. Li Binbin introduced a series of research on the protection of giant pandas under the "Hemisphere Project". She specifically introduced a umbrella project for the giant pandas, an endemic species only found in China, the impacts of the species protection, and the problems in the grazing of the giant pandas by using species distribution model. She also introduced the development process of assessing demographic figure of the giant pandas referring to footprint chain. Audiences in the Hall and on the line were very enthusiastic about the talk, and asked questions. They also discussed actively about the assessment methods of animal conservation. Such as how to apply species distribution models, solving grazing problems, and the application of footprint surveys.

Discussion between Dr Li and the audiences.

Dr Li’s seminar not only increased audiences’ knowledge on conservation biology, particularly related to the giant panda and community management, but also taught them how to reach the research goals according to alternative research designs.
