International Law for Wildlife Protection

On June 11, 2020, invited by Associate Research Fellow Huang Zhi-Pang, Li Chun, an animal protection expert, and a senior consultant of TNC Yunnan Project and Yunnan Golden Monkey Protection Network, gave a lecture titled "International Law for Wildlife Protection" to the staff and the students of Institute of Eastern -Himalaya Biodiversity Research in Dali University.  

Mr. Li Chun firstly presented some interesting historical reports and events demonstrating the harmonious relationship between human beings and wildlife, which aroused audience's enthusiasm and interests. He then introduced the histories and main functions of the International Convention on Wetlands, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and the Convention on Biological Diversity. He focused on the necessity and management of the CITES in controlling the import and export of wildlife, and also introduced the cooperation mode of compliance enforcement teams of the CITES in China, such as Scientific Management Committee of Endangered Animals. He also showed some recent cases against the domestic and foreign law enforcement. Mr. Li answered the questions from staffs and students both online and offline. Some issues interested by the audiences included the breeding of the wild animals, the consequence of smuggling living animals, and the places specifically protected in China, and so on.
This seminar not only broadened audience's horizons on wildlife laws and regulations, but also provided every useful guiding for teachers and students in their work on wildlife conservation and environmental protection.
